Dawn Luttrell began painting from the earliest age attending children’s art class in St Leonards in what were once old aircraft hangers. Her devoted Father converted a back yard shed into an art studio to encourage her interest in art.
She studied art for five years at high school and entered one of her first paintings in the Lane Cover Art Exhibition. She was booked into Art School twice but decided to follow her life-long dream to become an Air Hostess.
Dawn then took art classes again in St Ives where she studied water colour which lead her to painting on fabric, silk and t shirts. This developed into a profitable business.
After the loss of her dear Father from cancer she began painting murals and was commissioned to paint those in the children’s Ward of the Sanitarium Hospital in Wahroonga and also did various private commissions.
She moved to the Central Coast in the 2000s and dabbled in various art forms. She entered a painting in the Grandma Moses art competition and worked with others on the mural on the water tank for the Peninsula Women’s Health Centre in Woy Woy. The Brisbane Water Historical Society asked her to illustrate their cookery book which was published in 2014.
Recently she began painting in acrylics - mainly flowers, fruit and vegetables as she is an avid gardener and is amazed at the beauty, richness of colour and intricacies of nature.
She was told recently her work was so realistic that they thought her painting was a photograph. She also volunteers as an artist for Hospital Art Australia.
Dawn intends to leave not her “Footprints in the Sand” but her “Brushstroke on Mankind” and hopes that people will get pleasure from her work for many years to come.
Exhibiting at Gnostic Cafe, Woy Woy for the month of April 2016.
