Background
Lindsay Kilminster is an artist specialising in traditional fine art. Lindsay took up painting seriously when he retired in 2013, deciding to follow the footsteps of his grandfather John Love who founded the Adelaide Arts Society in 1952.
Lindsay paints mainly in oil as he is attracted to its vibrant colours and durability. He loves painting a wide variety of subjects including landscapes, seascapes, still life, flora and fauna and portraits. His inspiration comes from observing the environment around him as Lindsay feels nature is a wonderful teacher. This often sees him painting plein-air, although he also paints in his garden studio from photos he has taken. Lindsay is particularly drawn to seascapes. The wide open seas fascinate him and he has been mesmerized by wave formation from an early age, resulting in several paintings of wild seas. Of particular interest are cloud formations, water reflections and wildlife especially seagulls, pelicans and cockatoos which are often depicted in his paintings.
Today Lindsay combines his passion for art and travelling around Australia with his partner Anne in their motor-home, often venturing into roads less traveled and capturing on canvas the grandeur of the Australian outback with its vivid colours and changing moods throughout the seasons.
Exhibitions:
Lindsay has entered and sold paintings in various Rotary Club art exhibitions, Adelaide Fringe, SALA and the Royal Adelaide Show. He has held solo exhibitions at Mt Jagged Wines and also Food for Thought Cafe for 2017 SALA. He has also sold paintings through the Stationmasters Art Gallery in Strathalbyn, the Glenelg Art Gallery and the ASSP Gallery in Port Adelaide. The awards Lindsay has received so far include a Certificate of Merit (Oil Section) at the Royal Adelaide Show in 2013 for his painting “Tomatoes” and 2nd prize in the Patron Award by the Burnside Painting Group in 2016 for “Coastal Garden, Port Elliot”
