|Artist Name:||Shirley Drayton|
|Usual Medium:||Mixed Media|
Shirley is a Textile Artist who creates with fabric, dyes and stitch. Her background is as an Art/Textiles teacher and she also tutors adult Textile Art workshops.
Shirley ‘paints with stitches’ using free motion machine embroidery, (by dropping the feed dogs on the machine, the fabric can be moved in any direction), the finished creation could be mistaken for a photo, as well as ‘Confetti’ quilting, with tiny pieces of fabric, representative of Impressionist painting. She also uses the machine as a drawing tool, combining stitch with paint in mixed media work.
Shirley is inspired by many things from old sheds, beautiful old buildings, coastal places, scenery and memories of growing up on a farm to name a few.
Shirley’s work has been published in a number of magazines including the Textiles Magazine, Weekly Times, Bellarine Echo and the Golden Plains Miner.
