Featured Artists for Autumn 2020

By: Karin Bowler

Welcome to the Autumn edition of our Featured Artists segment.

It’s not surprising that so many artists look forward to Autumn to venture outdoors and paint the magnificent array of colour.  With milder weather and sunny days, there’s no better time for landscape artists to enjoy the fresh air and outdoor painting.

Autumn’s warm, rich colours of bright orange, yellows and reds not only inspire our landscape artists, but also contemporary and abstract artists eager to use a colourful autumn palette to create uplifting and inspiring works of art.

For our Autumn edition, we are proud to feature three wonderfully talented artists; Lindsay Kilminster, Janine Rea and Janette Giacobbe.  We hope you’ll enjoy reading about their artistic backgrounds and achievements and of course we know you’ll love viewing their fabulous, colourful paintings.

Lindsay Kilminster from South Australia is an artist specialising in traditional fine art.  He took up painting seriously upon retirement in 2013, deciding to follow the footsteps of his grandfather John Love who founded the Adelaide Arts Society in 1952.

Painting mostly in oils, Lindsay paints a wide variety of subjects including landscapes, still life and portraits.  He is particularly drawn to seascapes especially boats on the open seas and the formation of waves.  He draws inspiration from observing and studying the environment around him.

Today Lindsay combines his passion for art while travelling around Australia, often venturing into remote areas to capture on canvas the grandeur of the Australian outback with its vivid colours and changing moods throughout the seasons.  He has also travelled extensively overseas providing him with endless inspiration for his landscapes and seascape paintings.

Lindsay now conducts regular painting demonstrations and workshops and is also available for private tuition. Although he covers many aspects of painting techniques, he has a special focus in demonstrating the importance of composition, proportions and capturing light.

Lindsay has been involved in many group and solo exhibitions in and around Adelaide including Rotary Club and Art Group Art Shows and local Art Galleries.  He has been highly successful in both art awards and art sales.

Janine Rea from Western Australia lives on the North coast of Perth.  Her bold, bright colours and patterns are created mostly in acrylic and mixed media.

Also working as a geologist, Janine has lived in many remote locations and has had the opportunity to study the outback landscapes, rock formations, textures and colours adding much inspiration to her artwork.  Her approach to capturing outback scenes on canvas is quite contrary to her work as a geologist which requires precise and accurate structure.  In the artistic sense she enjoys the freedom of creativity.

Janine exhibits her work regularly through several local art societies where she has been successful in both sales and awards. She will also be exhibiting her work at a new art gallery opening soon in West Leederville.

Several of Janine’s paintings can be viewed at the North Coast Art Club Exhibition held on the weekend of the 14th and 15th March located at Carine Club Rooms on Beach Road in Carine, WA.

Janette Giacobbe is a Victorian artist who has always had a strong interest in being creative. She enjoys pottery, jewellery making and painting in acrylic, watercolours, pastels and mixed media.

To expand her artistic skills in watercolours and acrylics, Janette attended an overseas painting tour in Venice with Maxine Wade followed by two trips to Cambodia conducted by Craig Penny.

Over the years Janette has also attended many workshops in various mediums but has been painting mostly in acrylics since 2011.

Janette has been a member of the Malvern Artists Society and the Heidelberg Artists Society since 2012 and has continued studying acrylics with artist Susan O’Brien.  With Susan’s guidance, she feels her interest in semi-abstract painting has grown and is a genre she is keen to develop further.

Through the Art Societies and Rotary Art Exhibitions, she has successfully sold many paintings and has received several art awards.
