Featured Artists for Summer 2019/20
Welcome to the Summer Edition of our Featured Artists segment.
With summer inextricably linked to our magnificent coastline our focus for this special edition is the Australian beach.
Seascapes challenge the artist and great skill is required to capture the interaction of the natural elements of land, sea and sky. Executed skilfully and the artist will evoke a wonderful sense of place where the viewer can almost hear the surf and smell the salt air.
Capture the image of people enjoying the surf and sand and the artists conveys yet another layer of emotion, stimulating our senses and brightening our spirits.
Three talented artists whose works truly convey the vitality and spirit of the sea are Janette Humble, Nicki Hall and Yvonne West. We’re pleased to present their wonderful seascapes and hope you enjoy viewing their work and reading a little more on their individual artistic journeys and achievements.
Janette Humble began painting later in life after a career as a musician working professionally with some of Australia’s leading Symphony Orchestras. After retiring she missed the creativity music provided and was drawn to the world of art.
Janette produces a variety of works with acrylics and pastels being her preferred mediums. Being a keen observer of people, animals and nature, her work is vibrant and expressionistic. She skilfully exaggerates colour to express her particular emotions within each work.
She has held many solo exhibitions and has been involved in several group exhibitions where she has been successful in selling her work and receiving many awards. In addition to exhibiting her work at art society events, her work can also be viewed at various local cafes and galleries.
Her artwork is also held in private collections and in the corporate sector within Australia and overseas in Germany, London and Singapore.
Nicki Hall has lived for most of her life on the Sapphire Coast of New South Wales where she developed her skills in painting and sculpting. Although predominately self-taught, she has participated in many workshops with well-known Australian artists such as Herman Pekel, Joseph Zubukvic and John Wilson.
Nicki now conducts workshops for beginners in painting and sculpting and also tutors for several local Art and Craft Societies.
Nicki is an extraordinarily versatile artist producing works in a wide variety of subjects and mediums. Although she also paints in a variety of styles, she is mostly a realist producing amazingly detailed pastel works of beach scenes.
Her achievements include many first prize awards and she was also awarded third prize in the Australian Artist Magazine for their section on Seascapes, Rivers and Lakes in 2014.
Nicki is represented by galleries throughout New South Wales and regularly takes part in exhibitions with several local Art Societies. She is always open to commissions for landscape work as well as animal portraits.
Yvonne West was raised at Quakers Hill in New South Wales. Her desire to be an artist started at an early age, but very few opportunities were available in what was at that time a remote country area. Later commencing work in Pottery decorating and Millinery provided some satisfaction to her creative spirit.
After raising a family and working outside the home for many years she finally had the opportunity to study painting in the mid 1980’s and achieved painting and drawing certificates at Penrith TAFE. She has also furthered her artistic skills through many Australian and overseas painting trips.
Her work is mostly realist, but she has also experimented in more contemporary styles including abstract compositions.
Now living in the Hawkesbury area for many years, Yvonne enjoys plein-air painting in a variety of mediums. Mostly painting in oils and acrylics, she loves to capture the beauty of the landscape and wildlife around her.
Yvonne exhibits annually in metropolitan and country shows and the Royal Agricultural Show.
She has won over 90 art awards, and her work is held in private collections throughout Australia, USA and the UK. Her works have also been acquired by the Housing Industry Association, Lexus Car Company and Paris Café, Parramatta. Yvonne is also available for commissions.
