About the Exhibition:

New and archival works by Claire Engkaninan Low on at the The Corner Gallery Stanmore from 26th August to 1st September 2026.

Curiosity Shop is more relaxed exhibition than Claire's previous show Academia. It includes new works on cradled wood boards, some stockroom favourites, and a range of other items including watercolours, anthologies, postcards and zines.

​Join Claire for on the opening night for drinks supplied by Yulli's brews, or at some other stage during the show's week-long run.

About the Artist:

Claire's work explores themes such as sustainability, natural history and her identity as an Asian Australian.

​Recently Claire has been...

  • invited to show three of her paintings at N. Smith Gallery for its Lunar New Year show.
  • shortlisted for the Hope Prize, with her short fiction to be published in a Simon & Schuster anthology.
  • included among the finalists for the Burwood Art Prize.
  • commissioned to create a custom artwork for the horror writer Katya de Becerra’s upcoming novel Little Kin.
  • selected for the Gallery Lane Cove Winter Salon with her largest ever painting.
  • included among the finalists for the Infuse Art Prize alongside her collaborator Lexi Markovic.
  • selected to show three of her paintings at Willoughby Council’s Homegrown: Surface Tension show.  

​As an artist, her artwork 'All Monsters Are Real' won the Reused/Recycled Materials Award in the 2023 Reimagine Art Prize. The same piece, a skateboard deck that imitates a Ming dynasty scroll, was a finalist for the 2023 National Emerging Art Prize – and a finalist in the 2024 North Sydney Art Prize.

​Claire's artwork 'Specimens' – 26 miniature paintings of moths and butterflies painted onto entirely reused or recycled materials – won the People's Choice in City of Ryde's Sustainable Waste to Art Prize 2024.

​Her painting of a tarot card, referencing a type of ghost character from her culture, won a medal at Conflux 2024. At Conflux 2025, she was also awarded a medal along with the E. G. Harvey Award for Australian Speculative Fiction Art for her painting of an astronaut hunting oversized butterflies as they attempt to escape into space.

​​Claire exhibits work alongside other artists of the Wet Paint Collective around Sydney's Inner West.
