Artist Background:

Castle Hill Art Society (CHAS) was established in 1967, with the idea of promoting, encouraging and facilitating the practice of the visual arts in the Hills District of Sydney.

Classes and workshops in all media are held for adults, also after-school and Saturday morning classes for children. The children's classes finish each year with a Christmas party to which parents are also invited. Prizes and awards are given out and the children's artworks are put on display. 

Meetings are held on the first Wednesday evening of each month (except January) at which visiting, well-known artists give demonstrations. Members and visitors are welcome to these meetings, with the entry fee being $3 for members and $5 for visitors. These meetings are now held at Castle Glen Community Centre, 155-157 Ridgecrop Drive, Castle Hill ( at the rear of the carpark at Knightsbridge shopping centre). See location map belowfor details. 

Other society activities include en plein air painting days, bus trips, painting holidays, and social activities such as our luncheons. 

Our two major exhibitions a year are the Art Award section in the Castle Hill Agricultural Show, usually held in or around March, and the Orange Blossom Festival Annual Art Awards, held in September. We also have Mother's Day and Christmas exhibitions of members' works.We have some very talented artists belonging to our society. Please take some time to browse through our members gallery.

We have now moved to our new venue at CASTLE GLEN COMMUNITY CENTRE, 155 Ridgecrop Drive, Castle Hill, and most of our classes, painting groups, portrait and life-drawing groups now take place here. Some activities still take place at "The Cottage" in the Castle Hill Showground.
