Group Information
The Group started out as “The Melville Art Group” in the early 1970’s in the Baptist Church Hall in Applecross. Their aim was to share their knowledge and experience with others, and to increase their own expertise in the process.
Initially, membership was by invitation only, but in 1984 it was opened up to include anyone interested in art.
In 1996 the group was incorporated, the name changed, and the Alfred Cove Art Society came into existence.
The Society consists of a group of people ranging from beginners to professional artists. They work in a variety of mediums, and share a love of art. They also welcome non-painters.
Membership Information
The Society currently have approximately 150 members.
Monthly meetings are held to share common interests and to learn from watching demonstrations by visiting artists. The Society also take part in a range of activities which help to develop their skills as artists. These include exhibitions, paint-outs, art camps, workshops and gallery visits. A monthly newsletter, ‘The Cove Ibis’ keeps members informed of coming events.
The meetings are held on the last Thursday of each month at the Atwell Gallery, Canning Highway, Alfred Cove and commence at 7pm.
Annual membership fee is $35 (new members $30), and there is a $5 fee per meeting, which includes refreshments. Visitors pay $7 to attend a meeting.

Exhibitions
Exhibitions are held at Atwell Gallery. The ‘Awards of Excellence’ exhibition is usually held in May/June, and their ‘Spring’ exhibition is held in October.
