Group Information
The Burnside Painting Group was formed in 1963, with classes commencing in 1964. In 2013 the group celebrated 50 years as a Group promoting Art in the district.
The Burnside Painting Group is a group of South Australians who enjoy creating art in a friendly environment with fellow artists. The aim of the Burnside Painting Group is to create and promote art in the community.
Membership Information
Members range from experienced artists to complete beginners.
Membership benefits include:
- To enroll in any of their classes throughout the year, (subject to availability).
- To participate in many of the Group’ exhibitions.
- To enter in their art competitions where prize certificates are awarded.
- To received their bi-monthly newsletter, ‘Palette Scrapings’.

Events
Exhibitions
The group have organized many art exhibitions which have been held at venues such as North Terrace, David Jones, Burnside Civic Centre, community centres and halls, banks, libraries and hospitals, from which many paintings have been sold. Their Annual Art Exhibition usually takes place during the SA Living Artists Festival over the month of August.
In addition to the above the Burnside Painting Group has a continuous exhibition in which members can submit work for selection at regular intervals throughout the year. Exhibits are displayed at the Burnside Community Centre, 401 Greenhill Road, Tusmore. All works are for sale.
Tuition
Workshops
Painting sessions are held Monday mornings from 10.00am - 12.00 noon and Wednesday evenings 7.30pm - 9.30pm. Classes are limited to 16 participants.
The Group’s painting and drawing sessions are tutored by experienced and practising artists. These sessions attract a very low fee of under $10 per lesson for members only.
Tutors who have taught students over the years include; John Dowie, John Goodchild, Malcolm Barbins, Marjorie Hann, Gary Gaston, Margaret Hooper and Virginia Jay.
