TheCastle Hill Art Society was established in 1967, with the idea of promoting, encouraging and facilitating the practice of the visual arts in the Hills District of Sydney.
Group activities include en plein air painting days, bus trips, painting holidays, and social activities. New members are always welcome. Application forms can be downloaded via their website. Meetings are held on the first Wednesday evening of each month (except January) at which visiting, well-known artists give demonstrations. Members and visitors are welcome to these meetings, with the entry fee being $3 for members and $5 for visitors.
Membership currently costs $38 a single for the first year (including a $8 name badge), then $30 for following years, with special rates for couples, students and pensioners.
Two major exhibitions are held each year; - the Art Award section in the Castle Hill Agricultural Show, usually held in or around March, and the Orange Blossom Festival Annual Art Awards, held in September. They also have Mother's Day and Christmas exhibitions of members' works.
The Society have recently relocated to their new venue at the Castle Glen Community Centre in Castle Hill, where most of their classes, painting groups, portrait and life-drawing groups will now be held. Some activities still take place at "The Cottage" in the Castle Hill Showground.
Their regular tutors include: Judy Adam, Deborah Aldrich, Angelika Erbsland, Venessa Harris, Joachim Lai, Mariana Ariza, Ellen Mcmahon, Jeanette Prout, Barbara Ward, Rebecca Byrnes and Desiree Martin.
