Ferntree Gully Arts Society
|Membership Fee:||$50 per annum|
The Ferntree Gully Arts Society was formed in 1944 making it the second oldest in Victoria. The aim was to encourage the practice and appreciation of the arts. Early members described themselves as “a group of people who meet regularly to draw, paint and yarn together”. This is very much true of today with members attending friendly untutored workshops in painting, life drawing, still life, printing and portraiture. Classes in pastels, acrylics, oils and drawing are offered on a term basis. Members have the opportunity of entering their work in several exhibitions a year, with awards in watercolour, pastel, drawing and print on offer. The coveted Annual Award takes place each October. In past years this was an acquisitive award which largely formed the Hut Collection of some 100 works. Other regular exhibitions include ‘Young at Art’ and ‘Street Art on Canvas’ both held to encourage and display the talent of young artists in our community.
Membership is currently $50 per annum.
Membership benefits include;

The Society’s regular Exhibitions showcase the work of their local artists and both well known and emerging talent from around the Dandenongs and its foothills. Exhibitions run for up to a month and happen throughout the year. They are open from 11am to 4pm on Sundays and other days as advertised on the board at the front of the car park, or during the week by appointment.
In recent times they have particularly encouraged young artists by holding two award exhibitions each year – “Young at Art” and “Street Art on Canvas”. These have proved to be most popular and visitors have been amazed at the depth of talent on display.
The Society run both friendly tutored and untutored Art and Craft groups. Classes are usually conducted on a weekly basis at various times during the day. Evening and weekends classes are also available.
Monthly one day workshops are organized in a variety of specialized skills such as printmaking and mosaic.
