Celebrating its 50th Anniversary in 2015, the Ku-Ring-Gai Art Society (KAS) is a non-profit organisation, run by artists for the benefit of artists and those interested in the arts. Founded in 1965, the Society has established and maintained a reputation for excellence, attracting artists from a wide spectrum of disciplines, covering both traditional and contemporary two dimensional works in all media. The Society benefits from the support of two Patrons, Meg Stewart and Lou Klepac.
The principle objectives of the Society are to foster all branches of the Visual Arts and to enhance the status of art and artists in the community by providing innovative and up to date activities for artists to advance their talents.
The Society meets at 7.30pm on the first Tuesday of each month (except January) at the Masonic Hall, on the corner of Pacific Highway & Turramurra Avenue in Turramurra. They organise guest speakers or leading artists to conduct demonstrations in a variety of techniques in a range of mediums.
With a membership now totalling more than 250, the Society encourages the advancement of thought and creativity in art and is continually attracting new members to its ranks from all walks of life.
The Society has four levels of membership:
- Social Student
- Exhibiting Student.
Membership forms can be downloaded from their website.
Exhibiting members are able to show their works three times a year at The Gallery at St Ives Shopping Village. Exhibits are held in March and October with the Annual Awards Exhibition in July.
