Group Information
The Launceston Art Society has a very vigorous programme of activities and events. We have a committee that comprises eighteen members who work on a voluntary basis to organise exhibitions, workshops, art trips, newsletters, art therapy and community programmes.
Established in 1891, the Launceston Art Society has a long history and have over 150 card holding members!
The Launceston Art Society aims to play an active role in promoting art in northern Tasmania, and encouraging a sense of community and connection amongst the artists in our area. The group pride themselves in fostering all levels of talent, from the complete novice to the experienced artist.
It is hoped that LAS members can maintain the vitality of spirit in keeping with those initial young people of the latter part of the 19th century who had the vision to bring together artists to enjoy and present works of art.

Membership Information
The group have over 200 members and welcome new members to join.
Membership includes copies of our quarterly newsletter, regular painting days, excursions and the opportunity to attend workshops. Full membership entitled you to exhibit with other artists at LAS exhibitions. It is expected that members make a contribution to LAS activities in terms of roster duty, etc., at group exhibitions.
Membership fees:
Full Membership - $40 per year
Membership includes access to our monthly newsletter, join in regular painting days, excursions and the opportunity to attend workshops. As a full member you are also invited to exhibit with other artists at LAS exhibitions, and will receive online editions of our monthly newsletter, containing many interesting and informative articles.
Friends of the Society - $20 per year
This is for those who may paint but do not wish to exhibit their work or participate in workshops, non-painters, past painters or simply those in our community with a love of art who enjoy keeping in touch with local artisans’ output.
Student Membership - $15 per year
Student memberships are available to students (including adults who are studying full time). Students will need to provide proof of enrolment to qualify for a student membership.
Junior Membership - Free
Junior memberships are available to children under twelve years of age.

The Society usually hold several exhibitions throughout the year, but some events were unfortunately cancelled during 2020 due to COVID-19.

The group hold regular workshops and take Art Therapy sessions.
