Portland Art Society
|Region:||Great South Coast|
|Membership Fee:||$12 per year|
The Portland Art Society is the main artists' organisation in Portland, run by artists for artists. That is, artists who paint or draw, whether this be with oils, acrylics, watercolours, pencils, pens, pastels or charcoal.
The Group have the use of a good-sized, well-lit studio, as well as equipment such as easels and a light box.
"The Arts Company", of which PAS is a member group, offers their members a gallery and shopfront to exhibit and sell their work in Julia Street in the centre of Portland.
New members are welcome to join. All members are also encouraged to volunteer some regular time to help staff at the Arts Co. shopfront. The Society believe that this is a reasonable request for artists who use the shopfront to sell their work.
Membership is $12 per year. It is a requirement to also be a member of CEMA which is an additional $35 per year.
The group have weekly meetings in their Mezzanine Studio on Thursdays from 1 to 4pm and most Tuesday evenings from 7pm - 9pm. Their meetings are for members to exchange ideas whilst painting and to encourage each other in a relaxed, non-threatening manner.
The Art Society hold their Annual Exhibitions around February/March. Within the Art Shows, the Society usually have a particular theme in which judging and prizes are organized.
