Group Information
The Royal South Australian Society of Arts comprises of a major group of South Australian artists and associates. Their aim is to encourage interest and understanding of art in the community. Housed in the Institute Building in Adelaide, the Society is proud to occupy its most attractive gallery.
The Society, established in 1856, has been at the forefront of visual art progress. Their members have made a comprehensive impact on the advancement of art in Australia and their influence on the international environment has been significant.
Always looking to the future, the Society advances art and the artists of South Australia through cooperative effort and innovative action, so extending appreciation of the benefits of art to the community.

Membership Information
Whether a professional artist, amateur, or art student, becoming a member of the Society provides an opportunity to mix with friends and discuss so many aspects of visual art.
Membership fees:
$60 per annum, plus a once off $20 joining fee.
Events
Exhibitions
The Society provides an ideal location for exhibitions of members' works, and of national and international showings. Each year they also host the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize and their Biennale Portrait Prize Exhibition which is open to both members and non-members.
In addition to special exhibitions held throughout the year, the Society have their own permanent Gallery which is open to the public Monday to Friday 10:30am - 4:30pm and Saturday and Sunday 1:00pm - 4:00pm.
Tuition
Workshops
The Society sponsors life drawing, plain air painting and portrait groups enabling artists with interests in those categories to share their outreaching endeavours. “Youthscape” places emphasis on the younger artists through independent planning of activities leading to prize winning competitions.
Innovative demonstrations are also arranged by the Society enabling members and the public to experience the actual process of portrait painting.
