The Watercolour Society of Victoria is a prestigious group of watercolour artists. Their committee members are made up by volunteers who provide many services for their members. These include monthly newsletters, maintenance of their website and the organisation of meetings, demonstrations and events. They also provide a venue so that their members can meet and share their love of watercolour.
Members have the opportunity to attend monthly meetings which provides for an occasion to meet friends and new people with a shared interest. We meet in the historic heritage building of the Victorian Artists Society. At these meetings we always have something of interest for watercolour painters - either a demonstration, manufacturer discussion of their products, lectures on watercolour and its history, and social gatherings where members may share their favourite painters, art books and other items which may be of common interest. A members’ gallery in shown during the meetings where slides of recent paintings done by members are viewed.
The quarterly Journal is a high quality publication sent to all members each quarter. In addition the Watercolour News is E-Mailed to all members each month including articles, information on upcoming events, awards and other achievements, and other items that may be of interest to members.
Several Paint-outs are organised each year for the Plein Air Painters which are always enjoyable with a break for lunch where everyone can meet and view the mornings work. Generally painters then carry on painting into the afternoon.
The current Society encourages anyone interested in watercolour painting to become a member. One need not be a painter - just have an active interest in the medium of watercolour.
The members of the Watercolour Society of Victoria meet each month to catch up with friends and share ideas and knowledge. The Committee provides different guests, presenters and demonstrators. The meetings are held at the Vic Arts Galleries in East Melbourne and commence at 7pm.
Membership is by nomination and once accepted the annual fee is $75. Application forms can be downloaded from their website.
