Background
A contemporary artist based in Melbourne, Anne-Maree Wise creates abstract work that sits between landscape and feeling, where land and sea are translated into a visual language of energy and quiet reflection. Her paintings feel instinctive, yet they are grounded in a lifetime of observations, study and teaching. Anne-Maree is tertiary trained majoring in Painting and Drawing at Deakin University. She has extensive studio experience and worked as an art teacher conducting classes in Melbourne for over 30 years. She is a passionate artist having refined her vision through regular workshops and exhibitions.
Colour is central to her process. Anne-Maree uses it spontaneously to evoke atmosphere and emotional resonance, allowing layered tones and sweeping marks to build a sense of depth and movement. Her paintings are less about depicting what is seen and more about distilling what is felt — a moment remembered, a place revisited, or an encounter with nature held in suspension. Ann-Maree’s work captures an impression of a time and place in pools of colour and shimmering light.
