Background
Highly acclaimed teacher and published artist, Annee’s penchant for drawing and painting developed at an early age whilst at school where she was constantly involved in artistic activities.
Upon arrival in Australia in 1969, she pursued a teaching career after graduating in Arts from Monash University and engaging in post graduate studies before qualifying as a secondary school teacher.
In 1985, after her two daughters had commenced primary school, she was able to devote herself once again to art. Annee loves painting on location, constantly seeking new inspiration and challenge. She demonstrates a profound ability to take ordinary subject matter and transform it by imbuing it with atmosphere and emotion.
Annee pursues a multitude of subject matter from landscapes to figures, flowers to the equine, in a fluid and competent manner, be it in watercolour, acrylic, oil or pastel, but watercolour has always remained her favourite.
Whilst Annee was instantly captivated by the beauty and diversity of the Australian landscape, she is similarly bonded to Europe and all that it has to offer and has painted in England, Ireland, Greece, France and Italy. She returns annually to Europe and conducts painting workshops, alternating between France and Italy in order to share this abundance of magnificent subject matter with others.
Annee is a member of “The Victorian Artists Society”( VAS), “The Australian Guild of Realist Artists” (AGRA), “The Watercolour Society of Victoria “(WSV) and “The Melbourne Society of Women Painters and Sculptors” (MSWPS), among others.
Artist’s statement
Painting is an integral part of my life and a wonderful journey which has allowed me to see so many beautiful places and meet with amazing people, whilst broadening my artistic knowledge by the countless visits made to renowned and not so renowned galleries. I love painting on location when the inspiration is still strong, however, sound craftsmanship and understanding of the concepts of composition and design, tonal range and pleasing colours, are paramount concerns of mine. I am also captivated by the effect that light can have on a particular subject and the manner in which it transforms it, whether it be a silhouetted perched village in France seen against the light, an intimate courtyard in Italy bathed in the rays of a midday sun, or the softness of dusk imbuing the majestic vista of the Australian outback. I constantly seek to communicate this through painting in the realization that our world is a truly beautiful place.
