Background
Gregory Pastoll is self-taught, having been interested in art ever since he could hold a pencil. He grew up in South Africa, where he followed a career as an instructor in university teaching methods and in basic mechanical engineering. Greg moved to Australia in 2013 to marry his childhood 'crush', who was at school with him, and whom he discovered had been living in Perth for decades.
He has always drawn and painted, and has explored most two-dimensional mediums. He works mostly in watercolour and acrylics, but has also done works in oil. His inspirations are beauty in nature, beauty in human character, and beauty in ideas. For him, each painting seems to 'ask' for its own unique treatment, so his style varies from one work to another. The process of working on a piece, for him, is an ongoing response to what is already on the canvas.
