An artist living in Perth, WA, I took up painting professionally about thirteen years ago after retiring from university teaching. My formal art education consists of four years of art study at high school in Sydney followed by a semester at East Sydney Technical College, but I have always loved art and particularly drawing and painting people. Although my preferred medium is acrylic I also experiment with mixed media and a variety of styles and subjects. I love to play with bright colours and, in particular, those that are complementary, enjoying the brightness achieved by their juxtaposition. My favourite subjects to paint are seascapes, birds, animals, abstracts and children but I am willing to paint other subjects when commissioned. I love to take on challenges and extend my skills with a variety of subjects, often working on up to four paintings at a time as my mood takes me. I have a large studio attached to my home and there is always a painting in progress on one of my easels.
My beachscapes and depictions of children at play are well recognised and have proven to be some of my most successful paintings to date, with paintings also selling internationally and interstate. Many of my paintings have been the result of people liking my work and commissioning similar paintings. My artwork has enjoyed generous exposure in numerous exhibitions and my most recent achievement was earning first place for my painting of an underwater reef. This has since sold privately. A keen snorkeller and underwater photographer, I have many photos of coral reefs and sea life which provide inspiration. You can also find my paintings on my Facebook page.
