Background
Joan, born in East Kew…
Started serious painting at 33 yrs of age with Mitcham Arts Society for 3 years.
Then with the late Marjorie Martin in Mitcham, for around 10 years in the Tonal Realism style…(Max Meldrum style).
Joan lived and painted in the UK for 8 years,- sold many paintings now hanging in various parts of the world.
She returned to Melbourne in 1992, married Jeff Gilmour and once again studied seriously in oils and pastels with tutors Fiona Bilbrough, Brian Armstrong and taken part in workshops with David Chen & Max Wilks.
‘Still Life is my forte, I am interested in chasing the light in a painting & making it come to life and glow’………
Joan has won over 40 First Prizes, many Honorable Mentions, and Highly Commended awards. As well as many Best Oil and Best Pastel awards.
