I have lived in Sydney for many years now, having migrated originally from England, and am intrigued by the unique nature of the Australian landscape, and its flora and fauna. I am inspired by the shapes, the colours, the textures and the light of whatever is around me. I’ve taken inspiration from places such as Hill End, New South Wales, enjoying painting the rustic miners’ cottages, and from visits to foreign lands such as Italy, Greece and New York, trying to express their essence and my response to that in my works.
I have previously explored painting on silk and on ceramics, but now focus on watercolour, where I love the often unexpected and unpredictable effects that can be achieved, and on acrylics, loving their freedom, especially when used to create contemporary and abstract works.
