Background
Nicholas Truscott was born in Melbourne in 1971 and raised in Bendigo, Central Victoria. At the age of 15 years, he began his picture framing training and art career in specialising in the medium of watercolour.
He received a Bachelor of Fine Art in 1994 from La Trobe University, Bendigo, majoring in painting and drawing. Throughout the following years, Nicholas travelled overseas to obtain inspiration and his art and style began to change and move in different directions. Much of Nicholas’ subject matter focuses on the architecture in cities of Europe and Australia. He concentrates on specific aspects of the architecture as he believes it allows the viewer to focus their attention on the buildings’ abstract design, textured finishes and composition, rather than the whole image.
Nicholas thoroughly enjoys painting this subject matter as the paintings are extremely technical and challenging. He likes to push watercolour to its limits with both colour density and technique, using both a traditional approach and methods learnt over the past 25 years since working with watercolours.
Nicholas has contributed several articles to the ‘Australian Artist’ magazine and has conducted many workshops through ‘Continuing Adult Education’ and continues teaching both children and adult students in the watercolour medium.
In conjunction with his art, Nicholas owns and runs a picture framing business and Art Gallery has continued to picture frame set amongst bush surrounds in Mandurang and together with solo exhibitions, continues to run shows of local and regional artists.
