Born to an Australian father and Polish mother, Renée Garling is a multi-disciplinary artist whose first incarnation as a graphic designer saw her working at print shops and newspapers at various regional centres around New South Wales and Victoria.
She has her photography running as a separate creative stream and since childhood Renée has been capturing patterns, textures and eye catching images in natural and built environments.
Now as a free agent she is returning to her first love — art.
Renée has a anarchic yet kind hearted spirit and is inspired by Klimt, Brack, Smart, Emin, Łempicka, Dalí, Oppenheim and Míro, just to name a few and has recently immersed herself in the Japanese aesthetic of wabi-sabi — finding beauty in imperfection, transience, impermanence and decay.
She has an additional creative compulsion as a satirist and various online projects showcase her conversational, sardonic writing with original illustrations.
Renée has her own studio on the first floor of Firestation Print Studio in Armadale and encourages other interested artists and art enthusiasts to come and say hello. The Firestation Print Studio is open to the public Wednesday to Saturday 11am - 4pm.
Renée's art has developed with tutelage and guidance from a variety of established artists' including;
- Kathy Heywood, Manningham Art Studios
- Velda Palazzi, Surrey Hills
- John Hinds, Armadale
- Janet Leith, Wangaratta
- Frank Burgers, Wangaratta
Photographic mentors include; Michael Fountoulakis and Lynn Daryl Smith.
She has also benefited from a online mentor/friendship with Elliot Cowan, animator, writer, artist and educator.
