Susan Lanchester started watercolour painting very late in life at 60 years of age after a quadruple bypass operation. With not having had any formal training she took up brushes and paints and set to work.
She particularly likes “plein air” painting and along with another friend into the bush she went, – well sort of. That was about 10 or 11 years ago and they went all around Woodend and district and further afield. Slowly others got wind of their enjoyable days and joined in and now a group meet weekly at the Woodend Art Group rooms.
Sue became a member of the Woodend Art Group around 2000 and was immediately put on their committee. She is also a member of the Macedon Rangers Art Group and has been working with both groups ever since. She exhibits her work regularly through the group’s art shows and various Rotary Art Shows in and around the Macedon Ranges area and has been very successful in selling her artwork.
Sue won the Margurite Anderson Award in the 2014 Woodend Art Show and also the “Packers/Hangers” Award with an oil painting which sold at “the Chambers Exhibition” held shortly after the art show.
She adds to her knowledge by going to and running the Summer Workshops at the Woodend Art Group which has allowed her to branch out from watercolours into acrylics and oils and mono printing.
Hopefully with health slowly deteriorating she will be painting for a few more years yet.
Sue has attended many classes and workshops covering a range of mediums held by prominent artists in and around Victoria.
