Now a permanent exhibition, this is an ideal way to view William’s art in an open clean environment, truly allowing the striking and powerful artwork to shine.
Artist’s Statement
The material, physical and tactile nature of the canvas is clearly a spontaneous enjoyment in the act of painting; the dynamic paint application is as if in a whirlwind of pure life-force and vitality.
The act of painting is a process of all consuming instinct where sheer joy in the moment is sought to reach a decisive conclusion when composition and content combine.
I’m extremely consumed in every line, texture and nuance sweeping across the canvas as the eye glides over the surface. The mastering of the materials as I work outside where the sun, wind and influences of nature all play a part. It’s clearly hard to contain the pleasures of the paint.
I've always believed in the authentic aura of a painting. Art is more than an image...it is a presence! It has to have a physical side. That ‘body' of the art work is a large part of its interaction with the viewer! I try to leave an immediacy in the process and maintain my initial inspiration for all to see!
