Background:

After graduating as a BSc in England, Jeremy worked as a Town Planner in the UK, a Geologist in East Africa and Australia; an Information Technology executive in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth and subsequently a management consultant.

His work is always innovative and with an enthusiasm and passion for art he concurrently develops several themes both painterly and conceptual.  Jeremy’s paintings are characterised by movement, colour and wit.

He works mainly in his studio in Mount Helena but he also maintains a studio in a small village in NE Thailand close to the Mekong River and the Lao border.

Artist's Statement

'My landscapes are inspired by real places seen or remembered.  As I work the paintings take on a life of their own and may gradually develop into complex constructs with content that I don’t fully understand myself.  There is often ambiguity and undercurrents that in some way represent my response to a place and time. I spend days looking at the painting and making marks, dragging paint over paint and glazing with layers of colour, without any real idea of what I am doing or why.  Ultimately the painting has a separate existence, independent from both the artist and the place but essentially about that place and that artist. Look at the work and let them talk to you and you will understand Jeremy'.
