Instructor Background:

Sydney artist Paul McCarthy is a painter who seamlessly integrates colour and natural landscapes. Over his 30-year artistic career, Paul skilfully combines the exuberance of Fauvism, the delicacy of Impressionism, and the avant-garde of contemporary abstract art, creating a unique visual language. His works are renowned for their rich colours and profound understanding of light and shadow, as if exploring and singing an ode to the infinite possibilities of the Australian natural landscape. On his canvas, each stroke is a profound response to the surrounding environment, whether through vivid colour combinations or subtle, soft tones.

McCarthy's plein-air style not only captures the diverse landscapes of Australia, from the coast to the inland, from the heartland to remote areas, but also injects new, dramatic light and colours into each artwork.
