About This Painting:
This is a pastel painting that uses thick, vigorous mark making in the stormy sky and choppy waves to give drama and movement. By contrast the the reflections in the wet sand were very softly and lightly applied and then partially erased to give that soft, blurred wet sand look.
Inspiration
We were in Port Douglas in the wet season and the weather was hot and windy and the sky was definitely building up into a storm. The air crackled with electricity as only storms up north do. The waves were crashing onto the shore and the sky seemed to almost touch the waves but the stunning colours of the sunset still shone through. Such a beautiful sight.
