About This Painting:
This is a pastel painting that was painted on board for my episode of the TV series Put Some Colour In Your Life. The board was primed with a dark umber pastel primer. By brushing the primer on, the extra texture created by the brush marks added to the texture of the sanded grain which enabled me to create quite a rugged desert foreground. The vibrant sunset sky was applied in a thick, chunky, manner to really make the colours explode.
Inspiration
This is of the Springvale cattle station in outback QLD. They had spent two weeks in very hot and difficult conditions mustering. The last of the cattle had been loaded, the horses tended and the dust settled and the crew were now able to sit back, catch their breath and savour the silence of the sunset.
