About This Painting:
Firstly sketched in with pastel pencil onto the scratchboard, then with a fibre brush, gently removed the ink. This method gave a excellent depth with the thick fur that Koala's have, shows the denseness. Very powerful hind legs, and soft gentle nose. This little one had been burnt on its paw, but was feisty. The colour was ink and watercolour. When complete, used a drawing fixative to protect the painting (about five coats); then glued to a museum approved board, and then placed in a deep box frame, no glass.
Inspiration
As an animal artist, it is a delight to come up close to the wonderful wild life in Australia - we have few, but what we have is delightful. The Koala is something special. This little "Hissy", was a rescue from the Victorian Bush Fires. Many didn't survive, but many did, thanks to the wonderful work of the fire fighters and wildlife rangers.
