About This Painting:
Generic portrait of a young lady from Victorian times. My aim was to construct a glowing, fresh image of youthful confidence. Watercolour, with minor touches of white gouache.
Inspiration
I worked from a vintage monochrome photo of the time when these hats were fashionable (1880s). I invented the colours, changed the hat to one less elaborate, gave her different jewellery and generally tweaked the image (without the use of technology) to my satisfaction. It ended up very different from the original.
